Expert summary

Boxing means a combat sport in which two participants, usually of the same body weight, fight each other with their fists. A boxing match has a series of rounds each of which is of one to three minute duration. Victory is achieved if the opponent is knocked down and is unable to get up before the referee counts to ten seconds, or if the opponent is too injured to continue. In the first case it is called a Knockout (KO) and in the second a Technical Knockout (TKO). If the fight doesn’t stop before an agreed number of rounds, the winner is determined by the referee’s decision or by judge’s scorecards.
